Pruning
Here at Manns in our apple orchard we use a technique called pruning. Pruning is the trimming of branches and could be called the art of apple tree sculpting. It provides strong healthy branches with space, and allows for the premium amount of sunlight to help with fruit production.
Each tree is unique, and thus an experienced person is needed in order to properly shape the tree for the most fruitful growth. Mann Orchard’s Pruning Technician is also our Farm Liaison Clive Burton, and when asked how he knows what branches needed to be pruned he stated simple, “I’m a professional”. It’s true, years of practice and experience has given Clive a special prune-instinct that allows him to move smoothly from one tree to another, trimming away with no more than a single glance.
